Shortage of Dental Professionals in China
The demand of Chinese stomatology
professionals is strong, while there is still a huge gap between China and developed
countries.
With the continuous expansion of the market
scale of China's dental industry, some potential problems are gradually
exposed, one of which is the shortage of dental professionals in China, which
is far from meeting the growing market demand.
In recent years, under the promotion of the
national practice policies and the reform of doctor training system, the
shortage of dental professionals has been improved. From 2014 to 2017, the
number of dental professionals in China has increased yearly.
However, compared with the huge market
demand of over 700 specialized oral hospitals and more than 80,000 private oral
treatment institutions, the number of present dental professionals is far from
enough.
Compared with the United States, there is
no absolute gap in the number of licensed dental professionals in China. In
2017, the number of licensed dental professionals in the United States was
199,000 and it was 47,000 over China.
Therefore, there is a relative shortage of dental
professionals in China and a large shortage of medical human resources, which
may become an important factor restricting the development of dental industry
in the future.
